		<description>Crushes
Crushes, a collection of work as well as a solo exhibition at MAG Galleries, revisits the electric uncertainty of queer adolescence through stitched memory and coded desire. In this series of quilted portraits and textile works, Greg Climer reconstructs the visual language of high school infatuations, drawing on the glossy optimism of 1990s gay youth magazines like XY, and the secret longings woven into teenage bedrooms, gym locker rooms, and yearbook margins.
The images are reconstructions, amalgamations of teenage crushes. They include tropes of masculinity such as the cowboys and football quarterbacks as well as memories of moments of adolscent freedom like dancing at raves and concerts.&#38;nbsp;

Working across handcraft and digital tools—including AI-generated imagery, engineered prints, and animation—Climer’s practice mines the tension between what was hidden and what was hoped for. His subjects, often imagined or remembered crushes, are rendered with tenderness, ambiguity, and intensity. By layering traditional quiltmaking techniques with contemporary technology, Climer creates portraits that feel at once intimate and impossible—memorials to boys we barely spoke to, fantasies that flickered in silence, and the queer utopias we dared to dream alone.

		<description>Textile Collage Quilts

This series of work began by asking how else I could explore image making in quilts. The pixelated quilts begin with individual squares, which are sewn together to form a completed image. This series reverses the process. Beginning with printing an image onto multiple textiles, they are then cut and collage together to create distortions, glitches, new color combinations, or a sense of motion within the composition. 

Each quilt is made from custom designed and printed textiles.

All quilts 100% cotton with cotton batting.

		<description>Test for a knitted film &#38;nbsp;

The knit film, “untitled test”, is a long-term project in which I am collaborating with a knitwear factory to translate a film into a knitted piece. This piece represents a proof of concept for the film, demonstrating the animated knit technique.

Digital technology has replaced celluloid as our primary medium for storing cinematic images. Digital technology has also opened up possibilities in manufacturing of clothing and textiles which did not exist even 20 years ago. By knitting a film, one frame at a time, I am celebrating our technology’s new capabilities, our knitting craftsmen’s newest incarnation, and questioning the tangible aspects of film. Is the medium of the film equal to the content? Textile based imagery is older than celluloid yet this project could not exist without digital technology moving film beyond celluloid. So is this cutting edge or old fashioned? Like all my work, its a merging of the oldest crafts and the newest technologies to help us imagine new crafts from our old technologies.

	Porn Quilts


Pornography has become ubiquitous but yet taboo in our society. Supposedly everyone watches it. It influences our films, media, art, even who our celebrities are. But yet admitting to enjoying, owning, or producing porn is still taboo.

Walking into a mainstream gay bar in Manhattan, I have been confronted by pornography playing on video screens over the bar at happy hour. Men and women coworkers are enjoying after work drinks while overhead hardcore porn plays. Its used as a way to signal this bar somehow edgy even though the primary clientele is decidedly not.

If porn’s influence on our body image is so prevalent that a salon on the upper east side is now offering after school discounts on teenage Brazilian waxes, then why is it taboo to discuss owning Asses of Fire or subscribing to barebackvids.com?

These quilts normalize porn and the associated extremes of sexuality to the point making them mundane. Taking the evolution of porn from private vice to home decorating, it inverts the taboo. It is no longer undiscussed because it is filthy, it is now undiscussed because it has reached a saturation point and becomes background noise. The opposite of taboo is not always widely discussed, sometimes its just apathy to discussion.

Each quilt is made from custom designed and printed textiles.

All quilts 100% cotton with cotton batting and sewn by the artist.

		<description>Godspeed the Well-Dressed Man

Godspeed the Well-Dressed Man was a menswear label designed by Greg Climer, focusing on local production, quality craftsmanship, and narrative inspiration. The collections were approached as an immersive art project: each one was themed around a different, completely fabricated history of the label’s name. False websites, blog identities, and social media were all used to reinforce the invented stories, creating an ever-changing story arch to accompany the clothing.

This series of duvet covers take lyrics from pop music and remove them from their context, placing them in the bedroom to create sexual innuendo where none existed before.

The letters are laser cut and machine sewn, creating a labor-intensive object where simpler methods such as silk screening could have generated an acceptable effect.

The work utilizes new technology tools to further the possibilities of traditional handicrafts.

The four shown here are “Its takes more than fucking someone you don’t know to keep warm”, “spread love like violence”, “Don’t be afraid I don’t love you, be afraid that I do”, and “Things will shortly be completely out of hand.”

The picture projector project started as an exploration of pixels and animation. Taking a photo or painting and breaking it into vertical stripes, these were then connected end to end to create a filmstrip.The resulting film is shown here.

As a pattern maker in the fashion industry, I became fascinated by the process of tailoring garments to fit around the organic shapes of the human body. While Nature uses flexible and highly adaptable skin to cover our bones, we often invert this process through the act of tailoring. We employ clever techniques of sewing and cutting in order to create rigid and highly structured shapes to cover the organic body beneath. The Face Pattern is a sewing pattern for a human face if the base material were a woven fabric. Darts and seams are used to create contour, just as one would with a corset or suit. The project plays with the idea that often the simple solution is not the best solution.
